THE BEAUTY OF OCTOBER

THE BEAUTY OF OCTOBER

October is a 2018 Indian Hindi-language coming-of-age film directed by Shoojit Sircar, and produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar under their Rising Sun Films banner. The film stars Varun Dhawan, Banita Sandhu, and Gitanjali Rao. Both Sandhu and Rao debuted as actors with this film. Written by Juhi Chaturvedi and shot by Avik Mukhopadhyay, the film follows the life of a hotel-management intern who takes care of his comatose fellow intern in an unconditional and unconventional manner.

Given the title, it is needless to say, I was awed by it. But what really made October such a feast to watch in my opinion. Let's discuss in the following article.
------------------------------------------------
• The story :- Of course the story had to play a bigger part in the impression of a film than any other stuff, and did Juhi Chaturvedi outdid herself. With majorly writing light hearted stories like Piku and Vicky Donor, it was quite a surprise treat in October. The story of October is a stagnant one, I.e., it has a similar pace throughout its runtime[of course there are some exceptions] which reflects how life-like it is. There's no major plot twist, forced drama, forced romance or forced action. The story of October is as pure as a normal life, where anyone of us could be in a place of characters which brings me to the next point.

• Living Characters :- It is quite uncommon in current Bollywood movies, that the characters actually have some personality that goes out of its script. October has characters that have faults anyone could have. Anyone could have anger issues like Danish, anyone could have fallen from the balcony like Shiuli. The thing the decision itselfof taking care of Shiuli, could have been a different characters. So there's no legit or chosen protagonist of the story, its more a tale of everyone with everyone equally playing their roles.

• Not a Love story, but a story about Love :- The story left was with a question, "Was Danish in love with Shiuli?" or vice versa. The answer would be no. The feeling that brought Danish close to Shiuli was majorly Guilt. Guilt that if he had been there she might sit on the railings at the first place. Guilt that he could have treated her better during their internship. But what about Shiuli. Was she in Love? The answer here is uncertain. We sure know that she wasn't in the aftermath of her accident but was she in love with Danish before that? That's quite not the case. But how is it a story about Love then? The answer is quite simple, Love isn't just the connection a girlfriend has with her boyfriend or vice versa. Here, Love was interpreted as Shiuli's love to Shiuli flowers and Danish's growth from being an immature intern to actually a guy who can support people with his Love, the Love and respect Mrs. Iyer and her family had towards Danish, and the love Danish's friends did to financially and laborally  supported him. These forms of Love aren't as glorified but they are existing. We all experience some sort of Love and its portrayed in October quite beautifully.

• The Presentation :- Avik Mukhopyadhay and Shoojit Sircar deserve a ton of credit for the beauty of October. The film didn't have any fake or set up looking scenes. It felt as if they were recording them in their daily, which made it seem more realistic than Documentaries on Discovery
The Cast, especially Dhawan and Rao were outstanding while Sandhu was at a different level. Trust me acting like a dead person is the most difficult thing to do when you're surrounded by people.
------------------------------------------------
October is not a film that everybody can watch. But for aspiring writers, film makers and actors its a token of inspiration.
