THE GARDEN OF WORDS' UNIQUE CONCEPT(S) OF LOVE

THE GARDEN OF WORDS' UNIQUE CONCEPT(S) OF LOVE

The Garden of Words, aka Kotonoha no Niwa, is a film by Makoto Shinkai, that revolves around Takao Akizuki, an aspiring 15-year-old shoemaker, and Yukari Yukino, a mysterious 27-year-old woman he keeps ihave,+pp ,🐮🐮🤞meeting at Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden on rainy mornings.

While it is 7 years old, people still have misconceptions about it and I've not seen any reviewer/creator actually describe it. Given its always overshadowed by Your Name aka Kimi no Na Wa, The Garden of Words also happens to be one of the before-hype non shonen anime in my home country India.

So, before discussing the concepts that, in my point of view, Makoto sensei tried to portray in The Garden of Words, let's go through some misconceptions fans often have, starting with,
Takao's feet fetish? Well I can see a lot of romantic misconception that audience might have when watching The Garden of Words, but this easily takes the cake for the most outrageous one. Firstly, the accuser to get over Fifty shades of Gray, cause not everybody has fetishes for fuck's sake. Now Takao wanted to make shoes, a lot before he met Yukino. One of his inspirations had been the shoe that his father, his brother and he gave to his mum one birthday(as seen in a flashback), which further inspires the design of the shoe he keeps in the very spot he met with Yukino as a promise.

Yukino is a pedophile? Well, it depends on how we convey the meaning of pedophilia here. I mean if just falling(seemingly) for Takao makes her pedophile, she definitely is close to being one. But the official definition, pedophile is, an adult who is sexually attracted to young children. Well it would be totally wrong to say that there is no sexual love in The Garden of Words, but it definitely wasn't from Yukino's part. For Yukino, it was much more than a sexual stimuli or even an attraction of girl and boy, it was something different which brought me to write this article in the first place.

Sexuality, undoubted was a part of Takao's attraction towards Yukino. Given that he's 15 years old and is just going through his late puberty. For his age he was quite mature as a proof we are shown how he deals with her mother's post marital relationship with younger boys. For Takao, Yukino was a symbol of his adulthood. Adulthood, that consists of love, ambition and mostly freedom. His dialogues also reflects his form of love.

But people miss is, Takao actually sees his mother in Yukino[AS A BOY, I CAN CONFIRM IF WE BOYS FIND A WOMAN WHO RESEMBLE OUR MOTHERS, WE FALL HEAD THROUGH HEELS FOR HER].

When Takao got to know that Yukino was his teacher and a very liked one until some incidences happen unlike her carefree mother, his decision to support her showed how much has that small inch of sexual attraction and emotional stability has become. Takao also gets a remarkable amount of character development[which is visible during the ending scene where he bluffs about hating Yukino to lessen her guilt] for a 45 min movie[Fun Fact :- That's 20× more than Sakura in the whole Naruto and Boruto series].

On the other Yukino wasn't really sexually attracted to Takao. She wasn't in a position to be. Yukino, who was seemingly going through PTSD and existential crisis, had no one who would stay with her. In a place like the Gyoen, where couples go to date, it was like salt in a wound for her. But when the rain came, there was someone who conversed to her, someone she could talk to, apart from the stuffs she's been going through. That's why her tanka,

          "Narukami no sukoshi toykumori
           sashi kumori
          Ame mo furanu ka?
          Kimi wo todomemu"

(A faint clap of thunder, Clouded skies, Perhaps rain comes, If so, will you stay here with me?)[Also the rain here, in the tanka, refers to sorrow]

That emotional support gave her the strength she got from Takao wasn't enough to make her fall in love(yea, the love all you perverts are thinking about) with him. But indeed it gave her strength to actually visit school, knowing that her encounter with Takao would certainly be her last. But when Takao went on to answer her tanka(even after he got to know Yukino probably knew him all along),

        "Narukami no sukoshi toyomite
        furazu to mo
        warewa tomaramu
       imoshi todomeba"

(A faint clap of Thunder, even if the rain comes not, I will stay here, together with you)[Aww so romantic, take notes people who crushes love poems], made her fall in love with him but she knew that society wouldn't accept her and as a teacher it is a bad example. The moment Takao leaves, all her previous and current emotions ooze out resulting in their first and probably only intimate moment.
The Garden of Words expresses that love isn't so beautiful, it isn't all powerful, it isn't all sunshines and roses, in fact it is rain. Whenever you try to kick the collected water it splashes you with sadness. But one thing love isn't, is complete. Love is always incomplete. The Garden of Words isn't only a story about a kid having a crush on his teacher, but two individuals, letting in their inner demons and further conquering them, probably never meeting each other ever again.

SHIGATSU WA KIMI NO USO[YOUR LIE IN APRIL](2016) MOVIE REVIEW

SHIGATSU WA KIMI NO USO[YOUR LIE IN APRIL](2016) MOVIE REVIEW :-

------------------------------------------------
Synopsis :- Kosei Arima (Kento Yamazaki) won numerous piano competitions while under the strict watch of his mother. He was known as the human metronome during that time. Since the death of his mother, Kosei Arima has been unable to hear the sound of his piano. Kosei Arima then meets Kaori Miyazono (Suzu Hirose) through childhood friend Tsubaki Sawabe (Anna Ishii) and Ryota Watari(Taishi Nakagawa). Kaori Miyazono plays the violin and has a free sprit. Since meeting her, Kosei Arima is able to face the piano again. Meanwhile, Kaori holds a secret.
------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------
Characters and Cast :- Let's talk about the main characters first. The character of Kosei and Kaori had great expectations from me, especially after their characters were the best thing about anime. Kento-San and Suzu-chan not only met my expectations but actually surpassed it. Their performance was so good that when they cried, I cried and when they laughed, I laughed as well.(Note : While researching I got to know that Kento-San and Suzu-Chan actually played their respective instruments in the movie themselves with six months of practice, That's fucking dedication y'all)

The character that actually surprised me here was Tsubaki Sawabe's character, for which I really want to give a nod of appreciation not only to Anna-Chan, being really lovable and cute throughout the movie, but also the screenwriter, Yukari Tatsui, for actually changing a bit of her lines and making her a lot lovable character rather than just a secondary option for anime shippers without actually making her story different to the source materials. Just the choice of words, kids.

Ryota's character gained a lot thanks to the movie, since he didn't disappear this time in all the piano related or Kosei love triangle stuffs like the series. It really made him look like one of Kosei's closest person rather than just another friend. Also, Taishi-San is cool AF.

The other important side characters were Hiroko Seto(Yuka Igaya) and Saki Arima(Rei Dan). While Rei-San made Saki's character a lot more humane, instead of the anime's monster like vibe, for which again, Tatsui Sensei deserves applause. Seto's character is quite the same as it was in the anime, to which Yuka-Chan did justice.
Additionally, Masahiro Komoto and Hirotaro Honda played as the judges of the concerts; Kanata Fujimoto and Maharu Nemoto played the child version of Kosei and Kaori respectively.
------------------------------------------------
Music :- All the Sound Tracks were played by/under the supervision of Ryu Yoshimata. Other than that, the theme song of the film is "Last Scene" by Ikimono-gakari with "君なんだよ(translating to 'What are you'[Kimina nda yo]" by wacci playing during Kaori and Kōsei's date. Apart from Last Scene, my favorite track is Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, coz nostalgia.
------------------------------------------------
Final Thoughts[SPOILER ALERT] :- The movie is a notebook example how to make an anime into live action without ruining its fucking quality. I liked the movie so much that I think I prefer this over the anime. I know this is a strong opinion to the unpopular side, but I had my reasons. One of them being, characterisation of Tsubaki, Ryota, Hiroko and Saki. Due to the anime focusing on the reaction of the world reacting to Kosei's return to piano as well as squeezing in Tsubaki's love triangle and including dialogues like  "when she dies, you'll have no option to love me" which was changed into "she likes Watari, you idiot, you never have a chance over Watari, and then you'll have no other option to love me, idiot", or literally being pissed on Kosei for practicing with Kaori and many more. Ryota also gains a lot of attention because rather than appearing now and then and doing nothing. His advices seem quite genuine thanks to the screenplay and direction. Saki as I mention is way more humanized, which is, good not only for her character being misunderstood by a small minority of audience but increasing the guilt/sorrow of Kosei[you won't hate Kosei for that because he was a child and tried his best]. Hiroko is more attached to Kosei and is kind of a Mother figure from the beginning rather than coming back after his return in the piano industry. They also made the characters 17, instead of 14, which is way more realistic. The reduction of rivals of Kosei doesn't really bug me since it didn't effect the main plot of the story. The title is more justified as Kaori's secret is well kept until the last half an hour of the film. The letter yet again got me and cried so much my dad had to ask wtf had happened to me. That being said, regardless of whether you're an otaku or not, just watch this film, with your entire family.

THE BEAUTY OF OCTOBER

THE BEAUTY OF OCTOBER

October is a 2018 Indian Hindi-language coming-of-age film directed by Shoojit Sircar, and produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar under their Rising Sun Films banner. The film stars Varun Dhawan, Banita Sandhu, and Gitanjali Rao. Both Sandhu and Rao debuted as actors with this film. Written by Juhi Chaturvedi and shot by Avik Mukhopadhyay, the film follows the life of a hotel-management intern who takes care of his comatose fellow intern in an unconditional and unconventional manner.
                        Varun Dhawan
                       Banita Sandhu
                          Gitanjali Rao

Given the title, it is needless to say, I was awed by it. But what really made October such a feast to watch in my opinion. Let's discuss in the following article.
------------------------------------------------
• The story :- Of course the story had to play a bigger part in the impression of a film than any other stuff, and did Juhi Chaturvedi outdid herself. With majorly writing light hearted stories like Piku and Vicky Donor, it was quite a surprise treat in October. The story of October is a stagnant one, I.e., it has a similar pace throughout its runtime[of course there are some exceptions] which reflects how life-like it is. There's no major plot twist, forced drama, forced romance or forced action. The story of October is as pure as a normal life, where anyone of us could be in a place of characters which brings me to the next point.

• Living Characters :- It is quite uncommon in current Bollywood movies, that the characters actually have some personality that goes out of its script. October has characters that have faults anyone could have. Anyone could have anger issues like Danish, anyone could have fallen from the balcony like Shiuli. The thing the decision itselfof taking care of Shiuli, could have been a different characters. So there's no legit or chosen protagonist of the story, its more a tale of everyone with everyone equally playing their roles.

• Not a Love story, but a story about Love :- The story left was with a question, "Was Danish in love with Shiuli?" or vice versa. The answer would be no. The feeling that brought Danish close to Shiuli was majorly Guilt. Guilt that if he had been there she might sit on the railings at the first place. Guilt that he could have treated her better during their internship. But what about Shiuli. Was she in Love? The answer here is uncertain. We sure know that she wasn't in the aftermath of her accident but was she in love with Danish before that? That's quite not the case. But how is it a story about Love then? The answer is quite simple, Love isn't just the connection a girlfriend has with her boyfriend or vice versa. Here, Love was interpreted as Shiuli's love to Shiuli flowers and Danish's growth from being an immature intern to actually a guy who can support people with his Love, the Love and respect Mrs. Iyer and her family had towards Danish, and the love Danish's friends did to financially and laborally  supported him. These forms of Love aren't as glorified but they are existing. We all experience some sort of Love and its portrayed in October quite beautifully.

• The Presentation :- Avik Mukhopyadhay and Shoojit Sircar deserve a ton of credit for the beauty of October. The film didn't have any fake or set up looking scenes. It felt as if they were recording them in their daily, which made it seem more realistic than Documentaries on Discovery
The Cast, especially Dhawan and Rao were outstanding while Sandhu was at a different level. Trust me acting like a dead person is the most difficult thing to do when you're surrounded by people.
------------------------------------------------
October is not a film that everybody can watch. But for aspiring writers, film makers and actors its a token of inspiration.

Niketai Watashi wa Neko wo Kuburu(A Whisker Away) Anime Movie Review

Niketai Watashi wa Neko wo Kaburu aka A Whisker Away(2020) Review

Basic Story :- Directed by Sato Junichi, The film revolves around Sasaki Miyo, aka Muge, is a high schooler, whose mother divorced her father and now she lives with her father and step-mother, has a huge crush on Hinode Kento who didn't seem to appreciate it much. A supernatural cat sells a mask to Miyo with whose help Miyo can turn into a cat if she summersaults. At first it was all sunshine and rainbows for Miyo being a cat, taken care of by Hinode. She was named Taro after Hinode's dead dog. The sunshine soon got covered by dark clouds as Miyo started to become a cat forever. She travels to the secret realm of cats in search of the cat mask seller. Will she be able to become a human again?

The story is pretty great with a slight off guard plot twist. It also has a good pace and some humors that doesn't make it too depressing for children to watch. That's all I can say without giving spoilers.

Characters :- The main character, Miyo, is an energetic high schooler. She's so energetic that she's often referred as Miss Ultra Gaga or Enigmatic. However deep inside her she hides her pain. She truly loves Hinode, and she wishes to help her and thus visits her as Taro(her cat form). Hinode Kento, is a highschooler whose father is dead and the family of four(his sister, grandpa, mother and himself) is run by his grandpa and mother. Even though he has feelings for Miyo, he is hesitant to show it as he thinks Miyo might think he is pretty much useless.

The best of friends of each character, Fusake Yoriko(Miyo's best friend) and Isami Masamichi(Hinode's best friend) have played quite prominent roles with Isami being a bit overshadowed by Yoriko who has got equal amount screentime as the main characters.

 Isami, Hinode, Miyo and Yoriko
                   (From Left to right)

    Taro(Miyo's cat form)

The Mask Seller(Cat) is the main antagonist of the story.

 Mask Seller(Cat)

The other cast included, Sasaki Yoji(Miyo's father), Mizutani Kaoru(Miyo's Step-mother), Kinako(pet cat of Mizutani Kaoru) and her unnamed mother, the Hinode family and the human-cats who stopped living as human.

 Miyo's mother, father and step-mother
                    (From Left to Right)

 The Half Human-Half Cats

Animations :- The anime was produced by a collaboration between Toho Animation and Twin Engine with Studio Colorido of Twin Engine leading the animation and they did a great job. The trailer already seem fascinating and the movie was even better. It was somewhat between the classic animation of Studio Ghibli and life-like as in CoMix wave.

BGM and OSTs :- The BGMs were great to be honest. The drum sound while Miyo does some stuff indicating her enigmatic nature was hilarious, which were equally accompanied by soft music when required. The two songs, Usotsuki and Hana ni Borei, by Yorushika were great and soft, fitting for a mild romantic film as this.

Final Thoughts :- The movie is absolutely great, keeping in my mind it is labelled as a children's movie. If you want something to enjoy rather than hardcore romantics and lighten your heart a bit, this is probably one of the best choices. Not only you can see it with kids but the entire family will enjoy it. Great for a Sunday movie time with family. If you're alone then too its length being only 104 min, including credits, is definitely more than worth it.

Ratings :- 8/10

'Kono Subarashi Sekai ni Syukufuku Wo! Kurenai Densetsu:(2019) Review

Kono Subarashi Sekai ni Syukufuku Wo! Kurenai Densetsu(God's Blessing in this Wonderful World! Crimson Legend) Anime Movie Review

Basic Plot :- Satou Kazuma, an introvert dies while seemingly saving a girl from a terrible accident. Aqua, the goddess of water, informs him that he's the chosen messiah(which he definitely was NOT) for a parallel game world which is been suffering from the wrath of Devil King and he will get a special power to accompany him, Kazuma chooses Aqua, thinking she would be useful(which she definitely was NOT). Later the Kazuma was joined by Megumin, an arch wizard from the clan of crimson demons and Dustiness Ford Lalatina(Darkness), a pervert crusader, with season 2 ending like this.

This movie revolves around the legend of Crimson demons, and a knight of Devil King's army Sylvia.

Characters :- Satou Kazuma along with his adventuring party Megumin, Darkness and Aqua are the main protagonists in the movie, along with YunYun, the daughter of the Chief of Crimson Demons, and Megumin's self proclaimed rival. Megumin receives a monstrous amount of character development in the series, which is on par with YunYun and Kazuma. We even saw a different side of generally pervert, Darkness. Aqua just had her arc before this movie, so it was fine for her being on the sidelines for a bit.
                         Satou Kazuma
                              Aqua
                           Megumin
       Dustiness Ford Lalatina(Darkness)
                              YunYun
The supporting characters mainly, Wiz and Vanir, two Devil King's knights which essentially switched sides and said we saw a great chemistry between Vanir and Darkness, and having a limited screentime Wiz continued her glory run she retained from the past arc.
                                Wiz
                             Vanir II

The main antagonist Sylvia was one of Devil King's strongest knights and a chimera. She has a body of female with a penis thus being partially male, common to her race. She had been hungry for love, as the only ones who confessed to her were Goblins and ocres. She has been shown to have an affection towards Kazuma, and a special hatred towards lovely female humans.
                               Sylvia

The Crimson Demons like Komekko, Megumin's parents(YuiYui and Hyozaburoo), the Chief, Aure, Dodonko, the Professor(Flashback), Ocres and Goblin army have all had their bits to the movie.

                      Megumin's Parents
                               Aure
                          Dodonko

BGM and OSTs :- Retaining the EXPLOSION track from the series, the movie added some badass fight BGMs to it. The OP Little Symphony and ED My Home Town being somewhat decent.

My Thoughts :- Megumin is awesome, arguably the best loli ever. The ship moments in this movie was GOLD, with her tsundere side being more highlighted than ever. Her background story was shown in a funny way, but was pretty emotional in the hindside.

Aside from that the movie had pretty cool fighting animations, coupled with great voice acting and pace. The best part of the movie is even if you're not that familiar with the series, you won't be much or rather not at all puzzled during the movie. All in all, I highly recommend the movie.

Ratings :- 8.75/10.
